In 2006, Atlus released a small JRPG on the PlayStation 2 called Persona 3. It was a strange title where you had to balance life as a high school student, building friendships while protecting humanity from disturbing monsters during a hidden hour of the day known as the Dark Hour.

Announced during the Microsoft Xbox Showcase in 2023, the first trailer shows the remake in a surprising amount of detail.

By registering Personas, you can recall them at any time for a price. You must re-register as the Persona levels up and gains more Skills to keep what it has learned, but doing so increases the price.

To say that this remake’s presentation is an improvement over the original game would be the understatement of the century. Persona 3’s graphics have gone from looking like a PlayStation One game to a polished, next-gen HD anime visual fiesta in Persona 3 Reload.

Also, the Fatigue system from the original game is now completely gone in Persona 3 Reload. Fatigue was a mechanic from the original Persona 3, which inflicted debilitating status effects that severely weakened party members in battle.

Chasing the truth behind the Dark Hour, the existence of personas, and the rising cases of Apathy Syndrome that’s overtaken the world like a widespread pandemic creates an unmistakable existential dread that lingers over this world.

Following a variety of Persona 5 entries and spin-offs, along with re-releases of Persona 4, both Persona 3 fans old and new will get to see the ATLUS classic with revamped visuals and modern gameplay fitting that which the current generation has come to know. 

These Theurgies are an awesome addition to the game as not only do their animations look flashy and cool, but they also deal a metric ton of damage which can bypass enemy resistances. Not to mention, the main character’s Theurgy is a throwback to the Fusion Spell mechanic from the original Persona 3.

Although not loads had been seen in terms of Persona 3 Reload trailers since its Xbox Games Showcase announcement, new trailers unveiled during Gamescom 2023 both reintroduce us to the game's cast and story - as shown above - along with a BGM and gameplay trailer.

In August 2023, a further Famitsu interview was conducted between Wada, Niitsuma, Yamaguchi and composer Atsushi Kitajoh. They elaborated on the development process of remaking the game's assets, stating that the character models from Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight (2018), which marked the first time many Persona 3 elements were fully rendered in high-definition, were used as a base for corresponding models in Reload. However, the Reload assets were otherwise produced from scratch with various adjustments, such as Aigis having her proportions altered to emphasize her unique physical traits as a cybernetic being compared to the regular human characters.

She’s a member of SEES as a Persona-user, and after she and the Protagonist have a close call with a Shadow, she reconsiders her lack of battle experience and joins him on persona 3 reload gameplay the front lines.

Azusa Shimada serves as Persona 3 Reload's main character designer, with original artist Shigenori Soejima taking on a supervisory role. The two collaborated to refine the existing designs, as well as update the S.E.E.S. equipment when entering Tartarus. This includes a new armband, which was teased by game director Takuya Yamaguchi to have ties to a new mechanic during Shadow encounters, and a combat attire unique to every party member.

The leader of Strega, a group of three that uses the Dark Hour as a means to carry out requests for revenge. He considers the Dark Hour to be a special gift reserved only for those with the power of Persona, and does not wish for it to disappear.
